James River Press is growing once again, and has made an investment to expand their services to the creative and marketing world by investing in Xerox Corporation’s new Color 800 Press.

James River Press is the first print service provider in the Virginia area to install the Xerox Color 800 press. By doing so James River Press can provide shorter runs and relevant variable data printing with the higher quality that customers expect.

“We firmly believe that once our customers see the type of work we are able to produce off the Xerox Color 800 Press, we will enter into a whole new market with endless possibilities,”  said Bob Rhodes, president,  James River Press. “This new technology will give us the ability to provide our standard offerings more effectively, but expand into more complex offerings like personalized direct mail, short-run specialty applications, and short-run packaging.”

After researching several digital presses, the company decided that the new Xerox Color 800 Press was clearly game-changing technology. The company expects to grow its business with ad agencies, education, and other service type industries.

One distinct advantage of the new press is a clear dry ink station. The ability to add a clear ink effect lets customers enhance the creativity and impact of the printed piece, such as:

  •    Highlight images for visual variety, making them “pop” off the page
  •    Draw attention to a headline or variable text
  •    Highlight photos, logos or variable images
  •    Simulate pearlescent or metallic appearance
  •    Apply digital watermarks to add artistic effects or enhance security

“The marketing needs of our customers and area organizations have been a driving force for James River Press over the past year. We have made significant investments to make sure we continue to provide more value to our clients, boost their ROI, and meet the growing demands for personalization, short-runs, and quick turnaround,” said Bob Rhodes, president, James River Press.

Recently, James River Press announced its strategic partnership with Mailing Services, Inc., to offer their clients a single source for printing and mailing. This partnership has resulted in several large local and national print/mail campaigns that benefited clients by reducing budgets and schedules.  “The addition of the new press at James River Press will greatly enhance our capabilities to provide more relevant direct mail campaigns, personalized messages, and targeted programs,” said Jack Mayfield, owner, Mailing Services, Inc.

James River Press recently won Awards of Excellence from the Printing Association of Virginia for the BIG Annual Report, a Self-Promotional Campaign and VCU folders and mailers.

Copy of Xerox press release - ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 20, 2010 – Xerox Corporation’s (NYSE: XRX) new Color 800/1000 Presses have made a great first impression as printers around the world install the devices to produce vivid images on a wide range of paper stocks.

The systems, printing 80 and 100 pages per minute respectively, are ideal for print service providers looking to expand their digital businesses to produce sophisticated, full-color applications including sales collateral and direct-marketing pieces.

“This is the first time that the ability to add a special effect, such as this clear coating, has been made available through a fifth imaging station in a Xerox production color product,” said Jim Hamilton, group director, InfoTrends’ Production Hardware Consulting Services. “I am sure customers will be able to use it to great advantage as they create and sell value-added content that goes beyond the four process colors.”

Recent installations of the Xerox Color 800/1000 Presses include:

  • James River Press, together with Mailing Services Inc., will use the Xerox Color 800 Press to offer high-end variable-data print jobs to a broad spectrum of clients and prospects. “All of this will be done in one pass on the Xerox Color 800,” said Easley Johnson, vice president, Sales and Marketing, James River Press. “There will be tremendous savings in time and costs running a job like this on the 800 versus offset.”
